Manic Monday: Row 80 Round 1 2012 Goals

Hello, everyone! As some of you know, I’ve been fighting a wicked skin infection on my face, chest, and back. It’s some mixture of strep/staph, and it’s been awful. Imagine a horrible raised rash with postules over 90% of my face that itch like crazy. I don’t know how I got it, and it took about three days to find a combo of antibiotics that work, but it’s receding…slowly. The infection and meds have exhausted me, so I’ve spent a lot of time in bed or curled up in my chair. I apologize for being so behind on blogs and everything else, and I’m hoping to get caught up this week.

Enough whining. It’s getting better, and I’m grateful for that. It’s a new year, and I refuse to let the looming Mayan Prophecy curtail my plans. I can’t believe it’s time for Row80 again, but I’m looking forward to reseting my life and goals and having a successful 2012.

Row80 Round 1 2012 Goals (January 2 – March 22nd).

THE PROPHET
*Write a minimum of 500 words/day for a an ultimate goal of 35,000 words by March 22nd. That would put The Prophet around the midpoint, and I would love to be much farther.

INTO THE DARK
*Make a few edits to the opening and send out five new queries in January.

LIFE
*Recommit to my health. Get back to watching carbs and making sure to have veggies with lunch and dinner. Commit to exercising and getting into shape for summer. Work up to 45 minutes of cardio a day and LOOK FORWARD TO IT. View it as a time to reset myself and reenergize.

So there you have it. I’d love to hear about your Row80 Goals for this round, and hope you had a wonderful holiday!

  1. I’m glad your infection is clearing up. It sounds bad. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Good luck with your goals. I just hit the 10k mark on my new WIP and I’m hoping to write about 4K more today. I need to get back into fast drafting. The story flows better when I write that quickly.

  2. Thanks, Kelly. It was really bad for a few days.

Congrats on your writing! That’s awesome – I hope to build on the 500/word counts and get closer to about 2k as much as possible. Good luck!

  3. I know it seems that being stuck in bed is a good time to read blogs, but it really isn’t. I’m glad you’re on the mend now. Just take it easy. πŸ™‚

Woot Row80! I actually wasn’t thinking about doing it this round. I do love it, but the time commitment has me a little leery. On the other hand, I have several goals I’d like to tackle, and maybe Row80 would be a good progress indicator and accountability tool. I’ll have to think on it.

    • That’s so true. I didn’t open my computer for days. It was like I was stuck in an itchy fog.

I think the thing about Row80 is it helps keeps my goals organized and in focus. That’s why I go for it, and it’s not as nerve wracking as NaNo.

      Thanks!

  4. Infections can get out of hand very quickly without the right antibiotics. Thank goodness you got it under control. A friend of mine had a rash on his face and didn’t know what it was. He got in a warm shower and it spread so fast! Turned out to be poison oak. πŸ™

    Glad you’re back at it!

    • It was just crazy. No idea how this happened. They said it was a combo of strep and staph skin infections. Also made me incredibly tired, as did the meds. Thanks for commenting!

  5. So sorry about the health issues. My friend had something similar but on her lower back and legs. Took a while to find the right meds, too.

  6. Oh my land – the infection sounds awful and very serious. Take care of you. The blogs and social media things can wait until your well and back on your feet…your health is the most important thing!
Love that you are doing ROW80 again and your goals are amazing – here’s to kickin’ butt girl! Woot woot!!!

    • Thanks. Totally bizarre, and I shed a lot of tears worrying that my skin wouldn’t go back to normal. I’m still worried about the texture. We’ll see.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I really need to get a lot done these next few months!

  7. That infection sounds bad, I hope you recover quickly! Good luck with your goals! My goals include some exercise (no guarantees I’ll actually do it), and working on two books (a novel and a non-fiction about cats). I have yet to outline them, after that it shouldn’t take me too long, assuming the work doesn’t take too big a toll.

    • It was really bad. Face still has a long way to go but it’s recovering. Your goals sound pretty impressive. I don’t think I could work on two books at once. Good luck, and thanks!

  8. Oh my, you poor thing – sounds like something from another century or the future perhaps, hope you get some creative use of it πŸ™‚
Good luck with your 2012 goals and happy reading while you recuperate.

  9. That infection sounds horrible and I’m so glad you’re on the mend! I am taking the 500-a-day approach myself this year. Sure, it has only been a week, but I am loving it so far. I actually sit down to write even on crazy workdays because 500 is such a non-scary go, and I almost always end up going over. I think this approach is a winner for me!

    • Thanks, and me, too. Today’s the first day I feel moderately human. I’m so glad to hear the 500 word approach is working for you! It’s helped me in the past – I just need to get back to it:)

  10. I’m glad you’re on the mend, Stacy. I like that your goals are so straightforward and concise. Yes, they are big in some ways, but focused. Best wishes for a great round!
