Row80 Check-In 1-15

It dawned on me the other day that in my early January haze of sickness, I hadn’t actually posted my goals for this round. So, here they are:

Write 2000/week on THE PROPHET
Continue to query INTO THE DARK
Implement Dark’s theme of stalking into Thriller Thursdays
Exercise minimum of 20 minutes/day
Comment on at least two new blogs/week.

I’m happy to say I wrote 3000 words on THE PROPHET this week, which took me past my Sunday goal of completing Act 1. I’m into the first scene of Act 2, and it’s going well so far.

I did well on the exercising this week, although I need to do better on my eating. Need to stop with the junk so I can actually lose ten pounds.

I also commented on two new blogs on Wednesday, so I’m good there.

As for INTO THE DARK, I had some encouraging developments on the submission front. We’ll see how things play out. Still a long time to wait, but I’m staying positive and will continue to query.

Unfortunately, my week ended with some bad news, albeit not unexpected. My brother has entered his final stage of hospice care. He’s not completely reliant on morphine yet–as of now they’re only administering when he can’t breathe–but the end is drawing near. It could be a day, week, maybe a month, but I hope he doesn’t linger too long. He’s in pain, and so are the family members taking care of him. Thank you all for your prayers and support.

How’s your week gone? Any news on the query front for anyone? Have a huge word count or plot break through to report?

My good friend Donna Galanti shared her cover art and a teaser for her paranormal suspense novel, A HUMAN ELEMENT, coming from Echelon Press in March. Check it out and leave her some love!

  1. good job on the words & exercise. That’s great!

Sorry about your brother. Even when it’s expected, it can’t be easy.

  2. Stacy, sounds like you are making progress…and 3,000 words with week is awesome! On a sad note, I am thinking of you and your family.I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a loved one in Hospice. I hope your brother frins peace soon. He is blessed to be surrounded by loved ones now.

And thank you for sending some love my way with my book coming out! You’re a doll, as usual!

    • You’re welcome. The teaser was very good. Can’t wait for the book to come out!

Thank you. I do as well. He’s lingering in misery, and it’s not fair for anyone to have to die in such a way.

      Hugs as always:)

    Hi Stacy,

You are amazing how you are reaching your goals. You go girl! I’m still floored by the weight you were able to lose (a different post, but I’m a little slow). I need to take notes about how you (and Donna) do all that you do…

Please know that I will keep your brother and your family in my prayers.

    • Thank you so much. I am, too. I need to lose 10 pounds, and it’s harder than losing the original 65. And thanks for the prayers.

Sorry about that, signed out without saying, it’s Stephanie here.

  5. I hit my highest word count total for one day, 15K. I did nothing but write. I also finished my 80K YA novel in 12 days, another personal best. The story just wrote itself, which is always a tremendous feeling.

Great job on exceeding your goals, Stacy. Keep up the good work!

    • WOW. I have no words to that except HOW did you do that? How were you able to sit all day and do nothing but write?

      And thank you!

  6. Way to knock out those goals, Stacy!

I’m really sorry to hear about your brother. I know it’s been hard on you and especially those that are taking care of him. Sending good thoughts your way.

    • Thank you, on both accounts. For me, it’s the waiting and worrying about everyone else, especially my mother. He’s doing all right today, so we’re grateful for that.

  7. Stacy, wow, you’ve had a wonderfully productive week. Congratulations!

I am so sorry about your brother. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time.

  8. Love that opening graphic, fun 🙂

Awesome job on the writing and fingers totally crossed for you on Into The Dark. Stay positive. Also wish the best on the junk food front, beating that one can be difficult but if you set yourself limits and enforce them you’ll win free (I only allow myself 3 “junk” portions per week, and the portions are small).

My wife and I send our warmest thoughts to you in regards to your brother. It is difficult to lose those closest to us and harder still to care for them, just know that you are not alone and we will be here to lend you whatever support we can.

Hope your coming week is a great one 🙂

    • Thanks, Gene. That’s a good idea – three portions a week for junk food. Carbs seems to be my enemy, so I need to watch those, too.

And thank you (and your wife) so much for your kind words. It really means a lot to be a part of such a supportive group.

  9. Great goal completion this week! It’s great to see others doing so well!

And my prayers are with you, your family, and your brother. I hope he is comfortable and finds his peace.

    • Thank you, Claudia. It was fun to have a good week to report.

ANd thanks for your kind words about my brother as well. Much appreciated 🙂

  10. I’m so sorry about your brother. But I agree with you. When the person is suffering, the best is to go … even if we’ll be extremely sad about it. *hugs*
Moreover, you’re doing great! I’m glad you surpassed your word count goal. It feels great, doesn’t it?
    Have a nice week!

    • Thank you. It’s been especially rough on the family members that are close to him and taking care of him. And yes, it did feel great. Hopefully I can do the same this week.

      Thanks!

  11. Oh Stacy….sending you a HUGE virtual hug! I can’t even begin to imagine what you and your family are going through. Know that you are in all our thoughts and prayers!!!
GREAT job on your goals. Word count goddess and querying diva – I love it! Keep up the GREAT work and let us know if we can help or support you in any way!!!

    • Thank you. It’s easier for me because I wasn’t as close to him, and I’m not there to see him passing. But I feel for those who are.

LOL. Thank you for the encouragement and support!

  12. You will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers this week. The loss of a sibling is huge, but I admire your heart that you don’t want him to linger in pain. I hope he passes peacefully.

On the writing front, great job with your goals. It’s wonderful to exceed the word count by so much! As for the food junk, I have found it easier to snack a bit here and there while writing. I have to really watch that. Good luck.

    • Thank you so much, I really appreciate the prayers. I hope he does, too, So far he’s been mostly pain free, and we are grateful for that.

And thanks for the encouragement. I hope to get a decent word count this week, too. As for junk food, I try to have a big glass of water while I write. I’m actually better about not eating junk then. It’s other times when I wander in search of bad food, lol.

  13. You are doing so well on your goals!
My thoughts and prayers for you, your brother and the rest of your family. Allow yourself time for this.
